In Tijdmachines, het tweede deel van Play Van Abbe, worden utopische museummodellen uit het verleden gewogen op hun mogelijkheden voor toepassing in het heden. Hoe vertelt een museum een verhaal door middel van presentatietechnieken en welke aannames liggen hierachter verscholen? We dalen dieper af in de structuur van het museum om de (historische) fundamenten te ondervragen. Het museum onthult zich als machine die continu een verleden produceert door haar mechanisme van selectie en expositie: een tijdmachine in de letterlijke zin van het woord.
Tijdmachines bestaat uit: Tussen Minimalismen, Naar de marge en terug - Andrzej Wróblewski en Museummodules.
Deze tentoonstellingen zullen nog de hele zomer te zien zijn. Naar de marge en terug - Andrzej Wróblewski loopt tot 15 augustus. Tussen Minimalismen en Museummodules lopen tot september. |

Themalezing Play Van Abbe - Deel 2: Tijdmachines |

Op zaterdag 19 juni, van 11.30-13.30 uur, organiseert het Van Abbemuseum de laatste themalezing uit een serie van drie. Tijdens de themalezingen komen de drie tentoonstellingen die tijdens Play Van Abbe - Deel 2 te zien zijn aan bod. Deze laatste lezing zal zich richten op de tentoonstelling Museummodules . Natuurlijk wordt de themalezing gekoppeld aan een bezoek aan de tentoonstelling.

Tot en met 25 juni 2010 zal Antonis Pittas (Athene, 1973) als tweede kunstenaar in de reeks van Het Oog een werkperiode vullen. Tijdens deze periode brengt Pittas elke vrijdag op de buitenwand een nieuwe oneliner aan met grafietpotlood. Zaterdag 26 juni 2010 vindt vanaf 14:00 uur de afsluiting van zijn werkperiode plaats met een borrel en een toelichting van Antonis Pittas en Remco de Blaaij (curator Van Abbemuseum). U bent van harte welkom bij deze finissage.

Benieuwd naar persoonlijke verhalen bij kunstwerken? Dan is de Zomertoer echt iets voor u. De Zomertoer biedt u de kans het Van Abbemuseum te leren kennen aan de hand van 25 topstukken uit onze collectie en een aantal nooit eerder getoonde internationale bruiklenen.
De Zomertoer is geschikt voor de hele familie. Bij binnenkomst ontvangt u een doe-het-zelf toer door het museum. Wandel, bekijk het museum van boven tot onder en beleef de kunstwerken aan de hand van de verhalen van bezoekers, medewerkers en kunstenaars. Voor kinderen tot en met 12 jaar zijn er leuke doe-opdrachten, een drankje met lekkers en een verrassing aan het eind.

In Play Van Abbe Part 2, Time Machines , utopian museum models of the past and radical historical prototypes will be assessed to find out if and how they can be applied today. How does a museum tell a story through presentation techniques and what are the underlying assumptions? We will be delving into the structure of the museum to examine its foundations, historical and otherwise. The museum reveals itself as a machine that continually produces a past via a mechanism of selection and exhibition: it is a time machine in the literal sense.
Time Machines comprises three exhibitions: In-between Minimalisms, To the Margin and Back – Andrzej Wróblewski and Museum Modules.
These exhibitions will be open to the public during the whole summer. To the Margin and Back – Andrzej Wróblewski will be shown until August 15, 2010. In-between Minimalisms and Museum Modules will be shown until september, 2010. | |

On Saturday 19 June the Van Abbemuseum organizes the last lecture from a series of three. During the lectures the three main exhibitions of Play - Part 2 are discussed. This last lecture will focus on the exhibition Museum Modules. Of course a visit to the exhibition is included with this lecture.

Until 25 June 2010, Antonis Pittas (Athens, 1973) will occupy as second artist in the series of Het Oog (The Eye). During this period, every Friday Pittas will draw a new selected text from recent newspapers. Saturday 26 June 2010 the finissage of his working period will take place at Het Oog in the Van Abbemuseum with drinks and a talk of Remco de Blaaij and Antonis Pittas. You are welcome to join us for this event.

Are you curious about personal stories involving artworks? Then you should definitely visit the Zomertoer (Summer Tour). The Zomertoer offers the opportunity to get to know the Van Abbemuseum by viewing 25 top artworks of its collection and a number of never shown before artworks from international partners. The Zomertoer is suitable for the whole family. Upon arrival you will receive a do-it-yourself tour through the museum. Walk, explore the museum from top to bottom and experience the artworks by listening to the stories of visitors, employees and artists. For children under the age of 12 there are many fun exercises, and a drink, a small snack and a surprise at the end.
